Oborevwori Promises Patronage Of Competent Indigenous Contractors

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, said his administration would continue to patronise competent indigenous contractors while also engaging foreign ones for critical projects.

Governor Oborevwori disclosed this during the inspection of some completed and ongoing projects in Ika North-East and Aniocha South Local Government Areas of the state.

The projects inspected include the Faculties of Engineering and Environmental Sciences at the University of Delta, (UNIDEL), Owa-Alero Campus, Ute-Okpu – Ute-Enugu Road and Isheagu – Ewulu Road.

He commended the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the projects, adding that his administration would continue to consolidate on existing projects while also initiating new ones.

Governor Oborevwori said: “This particular road connects all the villages around this area. There is another village down the road called Ewulu; the road will boost commerce in the communities on this route.

“We are happy with the work done so far. The contractor has assured us that between now and December, the asphalting of the road will be completed.

“What is left of the work here is 24%; they have done about 76% of the work. The contractor has been fully mobilised and he has assured us that the job will be completed by next month.

“We also patroniszing Indigenous contractors and this is one of them that we are using. Looking at the work he has done, we are very satisfied”.

At the Engineering and Environmental Faculties of UNIDEL, Owa-Alero Campus, the Governor expressed delight with the quality of work done.

He said the Environmental Sciences Faculty consisted of two theatre halls of 250-seater capacity, four lecture halls of 50-seater capacity and four studios, while the Engineering Faculty comprised eight halls of 100 sitting capacity each and another 500-seater capacity, all completed and waiting for inauguration.

“On the Engineering Faculty, I am very happy for all they have done here. The workshop is fully equipped and already in use because they can’t be waiting for me to inaugurate before using it.

“What is left of the one of the Faculty of Engineering is just to equip the facility. Once that is done, we can come for commissioning. I am very happy with the two different contractors handling the two different projects.

“One good thing about the Faculty of Environmental Sciences is that all the departments are there in the building. So, I commend the contractor for what they have done,” he stated.
